Many times software developers will make a website for a client which will then be notoriously difficult to maintain. By that I mean that the original code is so complicated that there will be twice as much time spent making a new feature as it would be if the code was well written. I encountered this problem many times when I joined projects somewhere in the middle. The outcome was always that everything had to be rewriten.
